Hours: Starting June 27, 2016. Position will be 30 hours per week for 9 to 10 weeks.
Wage: $12.00 per hour.
Job Description: The student will be the main attendant of the Valemount Museum and its guests during the
summer months (July & August 2016). The employee will be responsible to report on the daily activities at the museum. The shifts will be either opening (10am - 4pm) or closing (12pm - 6pm) the museum for 5 days per week over a 10 week period, giving a 1-week allowance for prior vacation plans. The employee will be responsible to learn all tasks of both shifts including some cleaning as well as light accounting and inventory of our retail outlets. They will be required to learn the history of our museum as well as some local history so they may be able to assist guests with general information requests. This employee will also be helping with museum events including fundraising activities and the Children's Program which runs every Thursday during July and August. The Administrator will be responsible to carry out specific grant projects and the Museum Assistant will assist with those also. Fluency in English is mandatory for this position and a second language will be seen as a great asset when communicating with our many international guests.
Qualifications: The ideal candidate will be a local high school student who is articulate, enthusiastic and displays
confidence with others. A second language will be an asset, but not a requirement. Basic computer and internet knowledge along with familiarity with social media sites such as Facebook are required as is an interest in local history. Some hours in September may be available at the museum and for special events.
